50 pilotos and many guests met at this first Swiss League Cup in the Jura. B15 Vauffelin (Biel Pieterlen) - B10 Weissenstein - B17 Moron - B10 Weissenstein - Goal at Oberdorf. The first leg and back has been on the ridge - that was good, because of pretty low thermal top (1500m). But later in the day the termal top rised to 2000m, so that Goron and back has been nicely possible. Impressive to see, how the first leg already did pull the field in the length of several km. Obviously the EN-bolides could go almost straight, where other gliders did have to turn from time to time. The ranking will be published soon on this thread.

With a very high probability we go to Jura, Weissenstein. - Meeting point will be Oberdorf - Time will be defined tomorrow, probably 10:00 - I hope to be able to organize a Car or something to go up to the Take Off - probably we go to Micha Witschi in the evening and have a Pizza-Party Info about time and exact meeting point tomorrow noon.

Bei dicken Schneeflocken finden sich 10 Regio-League Members bei der Witschi AG ein. Wir widmen uns im theoretischen Teil dem Mikroklima und der Wettkampftaktik. Wir brennen uns den wichtigsten Satz zur McCready Theorie ein und gehen dann an unsere Notschirme... In den grossen Schulungsraum werfen...neu packen und fertig im Gurtzeug montiert in der Hoffnung den Griff nie im Ernstfall brauchen zu müssen.... Zum Schluss kommt das prognostizierte blaue Loch und wir werfen den Grill an und geniessen ein kleines Feldschlösschen zum Fleisch. Jetzt sind wir gewappnet für den nächsten Thermiktag mit interessanten Läufen.... irgendwie klappt das mit den hochgestellten fotos nicht so recht auf dieser seite... sorry

C'est de nouveau sur le weekend que tombe le mauvais temps... Vu la couverture nuageuse et les précipitations, la décision est assez facile pour la Suisse Romande. Pour ceux que ça intéresse, le cadre Jura fait un cours de théorie et des grillades dimanche. Bon weekend et à bientôt!

Wir treffen uns am Sonntag 23.3.14 um 11.00 an der Murgenthalstrasse 87 in Langenthal. Wir beginnen mit einem Theorieteil. Danach können wir entweder in Madiswil Westwindsoaren gehen oder wir machen ein Notschirmpacken. Zum Schluss kommt der sozial/kulinarische Abschluss: wie gewohnt werden wir noch was auf den Grill hauen.

Amici piloti, purtroppo il weekend dedicato alla miniliga viene annullato, abbondanti precipitazioni sono previste per tutti e due i giorni. Sto valutando l'opportunità di poter recuperare la data durante il primo weekend di aprile oppure sabato 19 aprile, secondo meteo e mia disponibilità, eventualmente seguirà un piccolo sondaggio per vedere quanti piloti sono interessati. In alternativa potremmo organizzare una data a maggio durante un giorno settimanale festivo. Nel frattempo non mi resta che aspettarvi alla prossima data ufficiale secondo l'agenda: 26 o 27 aprile. Much more cloud coverage as forecasted, no blue hole: Not enough thermals, even if the airmass has shown, that only a little bit of sun would have produced good lift. In short: 10 pilots met at Lehn, we went up with a taxi-bus and arrived at take off at 11 o clock. Time enough to make a briefing about safety, the SMS system and the weather. Just ready for take off some sun made some pilots climbing, but only for 10 minutes... that was the most of good feelings. The announced blue hole did not arrive, the wind got slightly stronger from west so that we decided to take off as long taking off was possible.... Some super week thermals in front of the take off, some soaring at harder. Thats it... Next weekend are proper Regio-Flights! Hopefully with better weather! Picture: Thats how it should have been! COSMO2-prognosis from 11 for 12:20! Remark: The Regtherm did forecast the clouds correctly. In difference to the Swiss COSMO (meteo.search.ch and most of the charts in our weather reports) it is calculated with the German global model GME. Normally it shows too much clouds - today it has been correct. Remark2: At Adelboden pilots could climb with a little bit of sun and fly to Frutigen.

On the Emagramms it is nicely visible, how the cold air is coming together with more humidity. It will give us more "unstibility" and thermal activity as we had during the last days. Check http://meteo.search.ch/cloud for the latest cloud prognosis. It looks, that we will have pretty much sunshine until 15 hour. What a Desaster to find a decision :-(... I try to explain the weather forecasts: Saturday ********** We will have lots of clouds in the morning. But all models show a sunny window from 10 - 15 hour at the north side of the alps. Maybe check http://meteo.search.ch/cloud. If we have bad luck, a sort of "Lenti" will remain fix at any position. Probably not... The frontal clouds arrive in the afternoon first with high (7000m), then middle layer (5000m). At the same time cold air will arrive. The stability will dissolve and strong valley wind will dominate. - Wind at 2000m 14 hour about 10-15kn W to NW. - Later and higher the wind is much stronger If you check the thermal prognosis BEO you see, that the thermal top just arrives in a hight with wind. Ths could be the case at Grindelwald, Verbier. Cloud base / thermal top 2200m - max 2500m (probably lower) Pressure gradient rises from 5hp at noon to 10hp in the evening... Sunday ********* After the frontal system we will have some "Restwolken". They should disappear, especially at the west side of the swiss alps. But we will have very strong wind above 2500m (30kn). Probably we will have a light inversion at cloud base. Together with a small Subsidence and Warmluftadvektion, the clouds should dry out. It can be, that the conditions below that layer are Ok for flying. Where to go??? ***************** Verbier: Only local flights, because of clouds, wind, valley wind... Wallis, Tessin: Northwind (the snow will strengthen the downwinds) Kandersteg Difficult with low cloud base and strong velley wind. Grindelwald Would be one of the possibilities. Maybe it works for take off, flights to Burg and back would be possible. Meiringen Windy, local flying possible Adelboden Local flying possible, but Westerly in altitude and valley winds in lower level... Decision ********* After many phone calls with the locals, we decide to cancel the Swiss League Cup and make Regio-Flights at Interlaken and Verbier.

This weekend the Jet-Stream is getting close to us. The frontal system will be week, but the winds increase. Probably Saturday is flyable at Verbier. Verbier, Saturday: 2200 0° 3200 -5° 3000 25 kn !! Cold air coming in during the afternoon: Strong Valley brises. Cloud coverage starting at 15 hour Verbier Sunday: 2200 N 10kn 0° 3000 N 35kn !! 3200 N -4° In the morning some clouds, disappearing fast ... because of "Subsidence" and "Warmluftadvection" (warm air coming in). Beim Briefing auf der Röti haben wir es vorausgesagt: unter der Inversion auf ca 1100m gab es eine einigermassen gute Luftschichtung welche gute Thermik und handlebare Turbulenzen aufwies. Die starke Sonneneinstrahlung in die laubfreien Wälder reichten aus, um in einem Band zwischen 800 und 1100m ziemlich "gäbig" die 34km abzufliegen. Nach dem Start stachen wir direkt ins Lee zum Weissenstein. Der Task ging nach Bodenstart in den Westen bis zur Starkstromleitung zwischen Romont und Plagne, zurück zur Antenne vor dem Weissensteinrestaurant und dann ins Ziel: Landeplatz Oberdorf. Markus Roschi übernahm rasch die Führung und flog den Task zu Ende. Insgesamt haben 3 Piloten die Aufgabe komplett erfüllt, andere haben ein paar interessante Flugstunden und Schulung in Sachen Leefliegen genossen. Wer im Tal von la Plagne zu tief reinstach musste dort landen... die Hänge können dort tief nicht mehr dieselbe Thermik wie am Jurasüdfuss mit Flachland entwickeln... alte Hasen drehen dort mal kurz auf vor dem Weiterfliegen :-). Ich denke wir haben das Möglichste aus dem Tag gemacht und einen interessanten Task geflogen. Bitte lädt euren Track auf der Ligaseite rauf, dann kann ich auswerten.
