Der letzte Task in Bassano verlangte den Piloten auf 55 Kilometern nochmals alles ab. Marco Sommerfeld krönte seine starke Woche mit dem 3. Gesamtrang, während Manuela Pfrunder als starke Vierte bei den Frauen abschloss.

Geduld und Taktik im Schatten
Schon am Morgen war klar: Es würde nochmals richtig spannend werden. Nach vier intensiven Renntagen war in der Gesamtwertung noch vieles offen, und theoretisch konnten noch zahlreiche Piloten den Wettbewerb für sich entscheiden. Die Bedingungen wirkten zunächst freundlich, aber nicht einfach. Die Basis lag tiefer als an den Vortagen, der Wind kam aus Süd bis Südwest, und hohe Cirrus-Bewölkung schirmte die Sonne immer wieder ab.


Um 13:15 Uhr wurde das 55 Kilometer lange Rennen gestartet. Von Beginn an war grosse Geduld gefragt: Die Thermik kam in langen Zyklen, und wir wechselten ständig zwischen hohem Warten und tiefem Überleben an der Ridge. Nach dem Start ging es zunächst zum ersten Wendepunkt und zurück an die teilweise abgeschattete Bassano-Ridge. Dort wurde es extrem taktisch. Einige Piloten fanden gute Steigwerte, während andere tief an der Kante kämpfen mussten. Der Westwind machte den Abschnitt zusätzlich anspruchsvoll, und immer wieder stellte sich die Frage: Warten und steigen, oder trotzdem weiterdrücken?



Die grosse Entscheidung: Ridge oder Flachland?
Nach dem westlichen Wendepunkt wurden die Bedingungen etwas besser. Die Führungsgruppe konnte den Turnpoint nehmen und wieder zur Ridge zurückkehren. Danach stellte sich die entscheidende Frage des Tages: Ridge oder Flachland? Die Ridge war schnell, wenn man hoch genug war. Wer jedoch zu tief an der Flanke hing, musste hart ums Obenbleiben kämpfen. Im Flachland war es schwach, aber für einige Piloten wurde es zur besseren Linie Richtung Goal.


Gegen Ende entwickelte sich ein fesselndes Rennen zwischen den Piloten auf der Ridge und der grossen Gruppe im Flachland. Pal Takats und Ross Desmond kamen hoch über die Ridge zurück, während Pepe und der Pulk im Flachland Richtung Ziel kämpften. Kurz vor Schluss sah es so aus, als könnten Ross und Pal mit ihrer Höhe und Linie alle anderen überfliegen. Am Ende gewann Pal Takats den Tagessieg, Magdalena Janaway war die schnellste Frau, und das Team Ozone holte den Tagessieg in der Teamwertung.



Schweizer Erfolge in der Gesamtwertung
In der Sports Class sicherte sich Andreas Malecki den verdienten Gesamtsieg vor Ross Desmond und unserem Schweizer Aushängeschild Marco Sommerfeld, der mit einer fantastischen Leistung den 3. Gesamtrang auf dem Podest holte! Bei den Frauen gewann Vanja Eggesvik die Gesamtwertung, während Manuela Pfrunder das Podest als hervorragende Vierte nur knapp verpasste.


Es war ein würdiger Abschluss nach fünf starken Tasks in Bassano: schwierige Bedingungen, viel Taktik, grosse Emotionen im Goal und ein letztes Rennen, das nochmals alles geboten hat.

SRS Skywalk Edition Bassano 2026 - Manche 6 : Une finale captivante et un Suisse sur le podium



La dernière manche à Bassano a une fois de plus exigé le maximum des pilotes sur 55 kilomètres. Marco Sommerfeld a couronné sa belle semaine par une 3ème place au classement général, tandis que Manuela Pfrunder a terminé à une solide 4ème place chez les femmes.



Patience et tactique dans l'ombre
Dès le matin, c'était clair : le suspense serait au rendez-vous. Après quatre jours de course intenses, le classement général était encore très ouvert et de nombreux pilotes pouvaient théoriquement remporter la compétition. Les conditions semblaient clémentes au premier abord, mais pas faciles. Le plafond était plus bas que les jours précédents, le vent venait du sud à sud-ouest, et des cirrus élevés voilaient régulièrement le soleil.


La course de 55 kilomètres a été lancée à 13h15. Dès le début, la patience était de mise : les thermiques arrivaient par longs cycles, et nous alternions entre l'attente en altitude et la survie en bas sur la crête (ridge). Après le start, nous nous sommes dirigés vers la première balise avant de revenir sur la crête de Bassano, partiellement à l'ombre. Là, c'est devenu très tactique. Certains pilotes trouvaient de bons taux de montée, tandis que d'autres devaient lutter bas sur le relief. Le vent d'ouest a rendu ce tronçon encore plus exigeant, posant sans cesse la même question : attendre et monter, ou continuer à pousser ?



La grande décision : Crête ou Plaine ?
Après le point de virage ouest, les conditions se sont légèrement améliorées. Le groupe de tête a pu valider la balise et retourner sur la crête. Ensuite s'est posée la question décisive du jour : crête ou plaine ? La crête était rapide si l'on était assez haut. Mais ceux qui s'accrochaient trop bas sur le flanc devaient se battre durement pour ne pas poser. En plaine, c'était faible, mais pour certains pilotes, c'est devenu la meilleure ligne vers le Goal.


Vers la fin, une course passionnante s'est développée entre les pilotes sur la crête et le grand groupe en plaine. Pal Takats et Ross Desmond sont revenus très haut sur la crête, pendant que Pepe et le peloton luttaient en plaine en direction de l'arrivée. Peu avant la fin, il semblait que Ross et Pal allaient survoler tout le monde grâce à leur altitude et leur ligne. Finalement, Pal Takats a remporté la manche, Magdalena Janaway a été la femme la plus rapide, et l'équipe Ozone a décroché la victoire du jour par équipe.



Succès suisses au classement général
Dans la classe Sport, Andreas Malecki s'est assuré une victoire finale méritée devant Ross Desmond et notre star suisse Marco Sommerfeld, qui s'est hissé sur la 3ème marche du podium avec une performance fantastique ! Chez les femmes, Vanja Eggesvik a remporté le classement général, tandis que Manuela Pfrunder a manqué de justesse le podium en terminant à une excellente 4ème place.


Ce fut une conclusion digne de ce nom après cinq belles manches à Bassano : des conditions difficiles, beaucoup de tactique, de grandes émotions au Goal et une dernière course qui a tout offert.

SRS Skywalk Edition Bassano 2026 - Task 6: A Thrilling Finale and a Swiss on the Podium



The final task in Bassano once again demanded everything from the pilots over 55 kilometers. Marco Sommerfeld crowned his strong week with 3rd place overall, while Manuela Pfrunder finished a strong 4th in the women's category.



Patience and Tactics in the Shade
Even in the morning, it was clear: it was going to be really exciting again. After four intense race days, much was still open in the overall standings, and theoretically, numerous pilots could still win the competition. The conditions initially seemed friendly but not easy. Cloud base was lower than on previous days, the wind came from the south to southwest, and high cirrus clouds repeatedly shielded the sun.


At 1:15 PM, the 55-kilometer race was started. Great patience was required right from the beginning: the thermals came in long cycles, and we constantly switched between waiting high up and surviving low on the ridge. After the start, we first headed to the first turnpoint and back to the partially shaded Bassano ridge. There, it became highly tactical. Some pilots found good climb rates, while others had to fight low on the edge. The west wind made the section even more demanding, and the constant question was: wait and climb, or push on anyway?



The Big Decision: Ridge or Flats?
After the western turnpoint, conditions improved slightly. The lead gaggle was able to take the turnpoint and return to the ridge. Then came the decisive question of the day: Ridge or flatland? The ridge was fast if you were high enough. However, anyone hanging too low on the flank had to fight hard to stay up. In the flats, it was weak, but for some pilots, it became the better line towards Goal.


Towards the end, a thrilling race developed between the pilots on the ridge and the large group in the flats. Pal Takats and Ross Desmond came back high over the ridge, while Pepe and the gaggle in the flats fought their way towards the finish. Shortly before the end, it looked like Ross and Pal could overtake everyone else with their altitude and line. In the end, Pal Takats took the day's victory, Magdalena Janaway was the fastest woman, and Team Ozone took the day's team victory.



Swiss Successes in the Overall Standings
In the Sports Class, Andreas Malecki secured the well-deserved overall victory ahead of Ross Desmond and our Swiss figurehead Marco Sommerfeld, who took 3rd place on the podium with a fantastic performance! In the women's category, Vanja Eggesvik won the overall standings, while Manuela Pfrunder narrowly missed the podium, finishing an excellent 4th.


It was a worthy conclusion after five strong tasks in Bassano: difficult conditions, a lot of tactics, great emotions at Goal, and a final race that offered everything once again.

Am vorletzten Tag der SRS in Bassano erlebten wir die wohl besten Flugbedingungen der Woche. Auf dem 64 Kilometer langen Task glänzte das Schweizer Team mit einer geschlossenen Leistung und brachte zahlreiche Piloten erfolgreich ins Ziel.

Wetterpech zur Wochenmitte
Bevor wir diesen grossartigen Flugtag am Freitag geniessen durften, war die Geduld der Piloten gefragt. Am Mittwoch wurde der Tag wegen unsicherer Bedingungen bereits vor der Auffahrt zum Startplatz gecancelt – es war zwar fliegbar, aber für einen sicheren Task ungeeignet. Am Donnerstag wagten wir einen Versuch am Berg, doch eine grosse, aufziehende Gewitterzelle im Westen zwang die Organisation dazu, den Task noch vor dem Airstart aus Sicherheitsgründen abzubrechen. Umso grösser war die Motivation für den fünften Durchgang!



Der Start und die Monte Meda-Linie
Schon am Start war klar: Das wird ein schneller Task. Die Thermik war besser als an allen Tagen zuvor. Der Startschlauch zog mit starken 3 m/s. Da der Startzylinder knapp 2 Kilometer vor dem Takeoff lag und genau dort die Thermik stand, ging es vor allem darum, die Höhe zu verwalten. Nach der schnellen ersten Wende holten wir uns an der Ridge einen 2,5 m/s Schlauch, um uns optimal für die Querung Richtung Bassano zu positionieren. An der Bassano-Ridge war Höhe der absolute Schlüssel, um in die labilere Luft zu gelangen. Wer hoch ankam, konnte auf Höhe des Monte Meda an die Basis fliegen und direkt zum zweiten Wendepunkt durchdrücken.



Routenwahl im Flachland und Vollgas ins E-Goal
Beim zweiten Wendepunkt musste man sich entscheiden: Die letzten Meter abgleiten oder ohne zu drehen für gut 5 Kilometer ins Flache stechen. Der Zeitunterschied war marginal. Wichtiger war es, auf den 16 Kilometern zur nächsten Wende im Flachen (direkt vor dem Startplatz) jeden 2 m/s Schlauch mitzunehmen und das Feld der tiefen Piloten von oben zu verwalten. Das Feld teilte sich auf drei Routen auf: Am Luftraum im Flachen, in den Bergen oder direkt durch die Mitte. Erstaunlicherweise waren alle Linien etwa gleich schnell!


Ab hier war Höhe alles. Der vorletzte Wendepunkt ganz im Westen lag etwas im Schatten. Wer hier oben war, konnte die tiefen Piloten, die in der schwachen Ridge-Thermik kämpften, einfach überfliegen. Mit 100 bis 150 Metern Höhenvorteil erwischte man die letzte 2-3 m/s Thermik, drehte die Höhe für das 200 m E-Goal auf und flog die letzten 10 Kilometer über den vorletzten Turnpoint mit Vollgas. Dank der super tragenden Luft am Landeplatz kamen wir alle mit reichlich Reserve ins Goal!



Mission: Podestplatz verteidigen
Das Schweizer Team konnte an diesem Highspeed-Tag wieder ordentlich punkten. Sven Albert führte die Delegation auf dem hervorragenden 17. Rang an, dicht gefolgt von Marco Sommerfeld (19.). Marcos Leistung war zudem entscheidend für sein Hersteller-Team (Gin Team 2), das sich dank seiner wertvollen Punkte vor dem finalen Task an die Spitze der Overall-Teamwertung setzen konnte. Auch Gaëtan Gerber (27.), Mattia Vosti (30.) und Soner Yorgun (32.) zeigten starke Flüge und sicherten sich wichtige Zähler. Für den finalen Task gibt es nun eine ganz klare Mission: Manuelas sensationellen 3. Platz auf dem Podest zu verteidigen! Die Bühne für einen nervenaufreibenden letzten Task ist bereit!

SRS Skywalk Edition Bassano 2026 - Manche 5 : Course à grande vitesse et coups de maître tactiques



Lors de l'avant-dernier jour des SRS à Bassano, nous avons probablement connu les meilleures conditions de vol de la semaine. Sur ce parcours de 64 kilomètres, l'équipe suisse a réalisé une belle performance d'ensemble et a mené de nombreux pilotes avec succès jusqu'au but.



Caprices de la météo en milieu de semaine
Avant de pouvoir profiter de cette magnifique journée de vol vendredi, la patience des pilotes a été mise à l'épreuve. Mercredi, la journée a été annulée avant même la montée au décollage en raison de conditions incertaines – la masse d'air était volable, mais inadaptée pour lancer une manche en toute sécurité. Jeudi, nous avons tenté notre chance, mais une grosse cellule orageuse menaçante à l'ouest a contraint l'organisation à stopper la manche avant même le start aérien pour des raisons de sécurité. La motivation n'en était que plus grande pour cette cinquième manche !



Le départ et la ligne du Monte Meda
Dès le départ, c'était clair : ce serait une manche rapide. Les thermiques étaient meilleurs que tous les jours précédents. Le thermique de départ tirait fort avec 3 m/s. Le cylindre de départ étant à 2 km devant le décollage, là où se trouvaient justement les ascendances, il s'agissait surtout de conserver son altitude. Après la première balise passée rapidement, nous avons pris un thermique à 2,5 m/s sur la crête pour nous positionner idéalement pour la transition vers Bassano. Sur la crête de Bassano, l'altitude était la clé absolue pour atteindre l'air plus instable. En arrivant haut, on pouvait transiter au niveau du Monte Meda, faire le plafond et foncer directement vers le deuxième point de virage.



Choix de route en plaine et plein barreau vers le E-Goal
Au deuxième point de virage, il fallait choisir : assurer les derniers mètres ou glisser directement en plaine sur 5 km sans enrouler. La différence de temps était minime. Sur les 16 km menant à la balise suivante en plaine (juste devant le décollage), l'important était d'exploiter chaque thermique de 2 m/s pour rester au contact et gérer d'en haut les pilotes plus bas. Le peloton s'est divisé en trois routes : en plaine près de l'espace aérien, dans les montagnes, ou directement par le centre. Étonnamment, toutes les lignes étaient aussi rapides !


À partir de là, l'altitude faisait tout. L'avant-dernière balise tout à l'ouest était un peu à l'ombre. Ceux qui étaient haut pouvaient simplement survoler les pilotes bas qui luttaient dans les faibles ascendances de la crête. Avec 100 à 150 mètres d'avantage, on attrapait le dernier thermique de 2-3 m/s, on faisait le plein pour le E-Goal de 200 m, et on filait à fond sur les 10 derniers kilomètres. Grâce à la masse d'air très porteuse à l'atterrissage, nous sommes tous arrivés au Goal avec une belle marge !



Mission : Défendre le podium
L'équipe suisse a encore engrangé de gros points lors de cette journée ultra-rapide. Sven Albert a mené la délégation avec une superbe 17e place, suivi de près par Marco Sommerfeld (19e). La performance de Marco a également été cruciale pour son équipe constructeur (Gin Team 2), qui, grâce à ses précieux points, a pu prendre la tête du classement général par équipe avant l'ultime manche. Gaëtan Gerber (27e), Mattia Vosti (30e) et Soner Yorgun (32e) ont également réalisé de très beaux vols et se sont assurés des points importants. Pour l'ultime manche, la mission est désormais très claire : défendre la fantastique 3e place de Manuela sur le podium ! Le décor est planté pour une dernière manche palpitante !

SRS Skywalk Edition Bassano 2026 - Task 5: High-Speed Racing and Tactical Masterstrokes



On the penultimate day of the SRS in Bassano, we experienced what were probably the best flying conditions of the week. On the 64-kilometer task, the Swiss team shone with a solid overall performance, bringing numerous pilots successfully into Goal.



Mid-week Weather Woes
Before we could enjoy this magnificent flying day on Friday, the pilots' patience was tested. On Wednesday, the day was cancelled before even heading up to launch due to uncertain conditions—flyable, but not safely taskable. On Thursday, we gave it a try on the mountain, but a large, approaching thunderstorm cell in the west forced the organization to stop the task for safety reasons even before the airstart. This made the motivation for the fifth task all the greater!



The Start and the Monte Meda Line
Right from the start it was clear: this was going to be a fast task. The thermals were better than on any previous day. The start thermal pulled a solid 3 m/s. Since the start cylinder was 2 km in front of launch, exactly where the thermals were positioned, it was mostly about managing height. After quickly tagging the first turnpoint, we caught a 2.5 m/s climb on the ridge to position ourselves perfectly for the Bassano crossing. On the Bassano ridge, altitude was the absolute key to reaching the more unstable air. Arriving high meant you could push to cloud base at Monte Meda and fly straight through to the second turnpoint.



Route Choices in the Flats and Full Bar to E-Goal
At the second turnpoint, we had to decide: glide out the last meters or push straight into the flats for 5 km without turning. The time difference was marginal. More importantly, for the 16 km leg to the next flats turnpoint (right in front of launch), you had to take every 2 m/s climb and manage the low pilots from above. The field split into three routes: along the airspace in the flats, in the mountains, or straight down the middle. Surprisingly, all lines were about equally fast!


From then on, altitude was everything. The penultimate turnpoint in the far west was somewhat shaded. Those who were high up could simply fly over the low pilots struggling in the weak lift lower down the ridge. With a 100-150 meter altitude advantage, you caught the final 2-3 m/s thermal, climbed up for the 200 m E-Goal, and flew full bar for the last 10 km. Thanks to super buoyant air at the landing zone, we all arrived at Goal with plenty of reserve!



Mission: Defend the Podium
The Swiss team scored heavily again on this high-speed day. Sven Albert led the delegation in an excellent 17th place, closely followed by Marco Sommerfeld (19th). Marco's performance was also decisive for his manufacturer team (Gin Team 2), which, thanks to his valuable points, took the lead in the overall team standings ahead of the final task. Gaëtan Gerber (27th), Mattia Vosti (30th), and Soner Yorgun (32nd) also put in strong flights and secured valuable points. For the final task, there is now one very clear mission: defend Manuela's sensational 3rd place on the podium! The stage is set for a nerve-wracking final task!

Der dritte Task in Bassano überraschte alle: Was als schwacher Tag erwartet wurde, entpuppte sich als das bisher schnellste Rennen der Woche. Auf der knapp 60 Kilometer langen Strecke glänzte das Schweizer Team mit einer geschlossenen Teamleistung.

Der dritte Task der SRS führte über 59,8 Kilometer. Schon während der Busfahrt zum Startplatz hatten viele den Gedanken: "Das kann doch heute nichts werden." Am Startplatz angekommen, liessen einige Piloten sogar ihren Ballast ab, in der Erwartung, noch schwächere Bedingungen als am zähen Vortag vorzufinden.


Doch es kam alles ganz anders: Um 13:30 Uhr erfolgte der Airstart zum bisher schnellsten Race dieser SRS in Bassano. Die Thermik war deutlich kräftiger als vermutet, und das Feld drückte mächtig aufs Gaspedal. Der Tagessieger rauschte bereits nach sagenhaften 1 Stunde und 48 Minuten über die Ziellinie.


Der Task war topografisch ähnlich aufgebaut wie die ersten beiden Durchgänge. Die ersten 40 Kilometer führten klassisch entlang der Ridge, bevor der restliche Teil des Rennens hinaus ins Flachland führte. Diesmal wurde das abzufliegende Gebiet von den Tasksettern jedoch etwas verkleinert. Das Ziel war klar: Der "Retrieve" (die Rückholung) sollte für die Organisation erleichtert werden. Wenn man bedenkt, dass am gestrigen Tag über 100 Piloten vorzeitig abgesoffen waren, war dies definitiv eine weise und von vielen begrüsste Entscheidung.


Das Schweizer Team zeigte sich taktisch clever und flog mehrheitlich solide ins Goal. Für uns endete der Abend nach diesem rasanten Flug gemütlich am Camper – bei einer grossen Portion Pasta und einem entspannten Open-Air-Debriefing unter dem italienischen Himmel.

SRS Skywalk Edition Bassano 2026 - Manche 3 : Du pessimisme au sprint à grande vitesse



La troisième manche à Bassano a surpris tout le monde : ce qui s'annonçait comme une journée faible s'est révélé être la course la plus rapide de la semaine. Sur ce parcours de près de 60 kilomètres, l'équipe suisse a brillé par une belle performance d'ensemble.


La troisième manche des SRS s'étendait sur 59,8 kilomètres. Déjà pendant le trajet en bus vers le décollage, beaucoup se disaient : "Ça ne donnera rien aujourd'hui." Arrivés au sommet, certains pilotes ont même vidé leur ballast, s'attendant à des conditions encore plus faibles que la veille.


Mais il en fut tout autrement : à 13h30, le start aérien a lancé la course la plus rapide de ces SRS à Bassano. Les thermiques étaient nettement plus puissants que prévu, et le peloton a fortement appuyé sur l'accélérateur. Le vainqueur du jour a franchi la ligne d'arrivée après un temps incroyable d'une heure et 48 minutes.


Le parcours était topographiquement similaire aux deux premiers. Les 40 premiers kilomètres longeaient classiquement la crête (ridge), avant que le reste de la course ne s'enfonce dans la plaine. Cette fois-ci, l'espace de vol a cependant été un peu réduit par le comité. L'objectif était clair : faciliter les récupérations (retrieve) pour l'organisation. Après la manche d'hier où plus de 100 pilotes avaient posé aux vaches, c'était certainement une sage décision.


Pour nous, la soirée s'est terminée confortablement au camping-car – avec de bonnes pâtes et un débriefing en plein air sous le ciel italien.

SRS Skywalk Edition Bassano 2026 - Task 3: From Pessimism to a High-Speed Sprint



The third task in Bassano surprised everyone: what was expected to be a weak day turned out to be the fastest race of the week so far. On the almost 60-kilometer course, the Swiss team shone with a solid overall performance.


The third task of the SRS covered 59.8 kilometers. Even during the bus ride to launch, many shared the same thought: "This is not going to work out today." Once at the launch site, some pilots even dumped their ballast, expecting even weaker conditions than the tough previous day.


But things turned out completely differently: At 1:30 PM, the airstart kicked off the fastest race of this SRS in Bassano so far. The thermals were significantly stronger than suspected, and the field pushed hard on the speed bar. The day's winner rushed across the finish line after an incredible 1 hour and 48 minutes.


Topographically, the task was structured similarly to the first two. The first 40 kilometers led classically along the ridge, before the rest of the race headed out into the flats. This time, however, the flying area was slightly reduced by the task setters. The goal was clear: to make the retrieve easier for the organization. Considering that over 100 pilots bombed out yesterday, this was definitely a wise and welcomed decision.
The Swiss team proved to be tactically clever and mostly flew solidly into Goal. For us, the evening ended cozily at the camper – with a big portion of pasta and a relaxed open-air debriefing under the Italian sky.

Der zweite Task der SRS Sport Racing Series entwickelte sich zu einem extrem selektiven Rennen über 86,6 Kilometer. Tiefe Inversionen und schwer auffindbare Thermik dezimierten das Feld drastisch: Nur gerade 25 Pilotinnen und Piloten erreichten das Ziel. Marco Sommerfeld und Frederic Monnet glänzten in den Top 10, während Manuela Pfrunder den Frauen-Tagessieg nur hauchdünn verpasste.

Bereits vor dem Airstart zeichnete sich ab, dass dieser Task kein Spaziergang werden würde. Um sich optimal zu positionieren, war viel Geduld gefragt – teilweise mussten wir schwache Schläuche mit gerade einmal 0,5 m/s mühsam ausdrehen. Der Start erfolgte schliesslich in Richtung Westen, wo nach rund zehn Kilometern bereits der erste Turnpoint wartete.



Gefangen unter 900 Metern
Schon kurz nach diesem ersten Wendepunkt kam es zu etlichen Low Saves. Die Luftschichtung war tückisch: Wer einmal unter die magische Grenze von 900 Metern fiel, bekundete enorme Mühe. Es kostete extrem viel Zeit und Nerven, sich wieder durch die Inversion nach oben zu kämpfen und den Anschluss an die besseren Luftmassen zu finden.


Die Turnpoints zwei und drei konnten im Prinzip entlang der Ridge geholt werden. Das Problem war nur: Die Thermik stand selten dort, wo man sie topografisch erwartete. Oft war sie stark windversetzt oder stand weit draussen im Tal. Wer in dieser Phase den Anschluss an die Führungsgruppe verlor, hatte das Nachsehen. Es konsequent im Pulk (Gaggle) zu versuchen, war heute der absolute Schlüssel zum Erfolg.

Komfortabler Endanflug dank starker Thermik
Der finale Glide führte über Bassano hinweg rund sechs Kilometer hinaus ins Flachland. Während auf der Strecke eher fehlende Thermik das grosse Problem darstellte, erwarteten uns im Endanflug plötzlich sehr starke Bedingungen. Auch heute kam wieder die Regel des "Elevated Goal" zum Einsatz: Für die volle Punktzahl musste die Ziellinie mindestens 200 Meter über Grund überflogen werden. Doch dank des kräftigen Steigens am Schluss war dies überhaupt kein Hindernis – die meisten der verbliebenen Piloten donnerten mit komfortablen 600 bis 700 Metern über dem Goal ins Ziel.


Am Ende schafften es lediglich 25 Piloten in den Zielzylinder. Umso erfreulicher ist das Abschneiden des Schweizer Teams: Marco Sommerfeld (4.) und Frederic Monnet (6.) flogen stark in die Top 10. Manuela Pfrunder verpasste als grandiose 22. Overall den Tagessieg in der Frauenwertung nur um Haaresbreite.

SRS Skywalk Edition Bassano 2026 - Manche 2 : Une lutte impitoyable pour la survie



La deuxième manche des SRS s'est transformée en une course extrêmement sélective de 86,6 kilomètres. De fortes inversions et des thermiques difficiles à trouver ont décimé le peloton : seuls 25 pilotes ont atteint le Goal. Marco Sommerfeld et Frederic Monnet ont brillé dans le top 10, tandis que Manuela Pfrunder a manqué de très peu la victoire journalière chez les femmes.


Avant même le start aérien, il était clair que cette manche ne serait pas une promenade de santé. Pour se positionner de manière optimale, il fallait beaucoup de patience : nous avons parfois dû enrouler laborieusement de faibles ascendances d'à peine 0,5 m/s. Le départ a finalement été donné vers l'ouest, où le premier point de virage nous attendait après une dizaine de kilomètres.



Piégés sous les 900 mètres
Peu après cette première balise, de nombreux « low saves » ont eu lieu. La masse d'air était trompeuse : quiconque tombait sous la barre fatidique des 900 mètres rencontrait d'énormes difficultés. Il fallait investir beaucoup de temps et d'énergie pour réussir à percer l'inversion et retrouver les meilleures couches d'air.


Les points de virage deux et trois pouvaient théoriquement être validés le long de la crête (ridge). Le seul problème était que les thermiques se trouvaient rarement là où on les attendait topographiquement. Ils étaient souvent fortement décalés par le vent ou se situaient loin dans la vallée. Dans cette phase, quiconque perdait le contact avec le groupe de tête (gaggle) était pénalisé. Rester systématiquement dans le peloton était la clé absolue du succès aujourd'hui.



Un plané final confortable grâce à de forts thermiques
Le plané final passait au-dessus de Bassano pour s'enfoncer sur environ six kilomètres en plaine. Alors que le manque de thermiques était le principal problème sur le parcours, des conditions soudainement très fortes nous attendaient lors de l'approche finale. Aujourd'hui encore, la règle du « Elevated Goal » s'appliquait : pour obtenir le maximum de points, il fallait franchir la ligne d'arrivée au moins 200 mètres au-dessus du sol. Mais grâce aux fortes ascendances sur la fin, ce ne fut pas un obstacle – la plupart des pilotes restants ont franchi la ligne avec une marge confortable de 600 à 700 mètres au-dessus du Goal.


Au final, seuls 25 pilotes ont réussi à atteindre le cylindre d'arrivée. La performance de l'équipe suisse est d'autant plus réjouissante : Marco Sommerfeld (4e) et Frederic Monnet (6e) se hissent dans le top 10. Manuela Pfrunder, avec une superbe 22e place au général, manque d'un cheveu la victoire chez les femmes.

SRS Skywalk Edition Bassano 2026 - Task 2: A Ruthless Fight for Survival



The second task of the SRS turned into an extremely selective 86.6-kilometer race. Low inversions and hard-to-find thermals drastically decimated the field: only 25 pilots reached Goal. Marco Sommerfeld and Frederic Monnet shone in the top 10, while Manuela Pfrunder only narrowly missed the women's day victory.


Even before the airstart, it was apparent that this task would not be a walk in the park. Optimal positioning required a lot of patience—sometimes we had to laboriously core weak thermals of just 0.5 m/s. The start finally headed west, where the first turnpoint waited after about ten kilometers.



Trapped Below 900 Meters
Shortly after this first turnpoint, there were quite a few low saves. The airmass stratification was tricky: anyone who dropped below the magic mark of 900 meters had an enormous struggle. It took a lot of time and nerves to fight back up through the inversion and reconnect with the better airmasses.


Turnpoints two and three could basically be tagged along the ridge. The only problem was that the thermals were rarely where you would topographically expect them. They were often heavily wind-drifted or located far out in the valley. Anyone who lost touch with the lead gaggle in this phase was left behind. Consistently staying in the pack was the absolute key to success today.



Comfortable Final Glide Thanks to Strong Lift
The final glide led over Bassano and about six kilometers out into the flats. While a lack of thermals was the main problem along the course, suddenly very strong conditions awaited us in the final approach. The "Elevated Goal" rule was in play again today: for full points, the finish line had to be crossed at least 200 meters above the ground. But thanks to the strong lift at the end, this was no obstacle—most of the remaining pilots thundered across the line with a comfortable 600 to 700 meters above the goal.


In the end, only 25 pilots made it into the goal cylinder. The performance of the Swiss team is all the more pleasing: Marco Sommerfeld (4th) and Frederic Monnet (6th) flew strongly into the top 10. Manuela Pfrunder, as a magnificent 22nd overall, missed the women's day victory by a hair's breadth.

Gipfeltreffen der Sportklasse
Bevor wir auf den heutigen Task blicken, lohnt sich ein Blick auf die Dimension dieses Events: Die 15. SRS Skywalk Edition (23. bis 30. Mai) ist der am höchsten dotierte Wettbewerb in der Geschichte der Sport Racing Series. Dem Sieger winken rund 77 WPRS-Punkte! Entsprechend hochkarätig ist das Teilnehmerfeld aus 33 Nationen. Am Start stehen die Saisonsieger der letzten drei Jahre (Mark Hayman, Christian Durrant und Pal Takats) sowie neun der Top 10 aus dem Jahr 2025. Besonders erfreulich: Auch die Top 6 der neuen PG XC Sport-Weltrangliste sind vertreten, darunter mit Marco Sommerfeld und Simon Steiner gleich zwei Schweizer. Zudem kämpfen 19 Frauen um den Sieg. Da Bassano einen anspruchsvollen Mix aus Alpenkette und italienischer Ebene bietet, ist hier extreme Vielseitigkeit gefragt.



Ein zäher Start und frühe Aussenlandungen
Für den ersten Task wurde eine anspruchsvolle 70-Kilometer-Aufgabe gesetzt. Die Prognose versprach leichten Süd- bis Südwestwind, keine Wolken und eine Basis bei etwa 1500 Metern. Doch bereits vor dem Airstart war es eher trickreich, richtig Höhe zu machen. Die Thermik war schwach, stark versetzt und man verlor das Steigen schnell wieder. Der Einstieg in das Rennen begann gleich schonungslos mit zwei grossen Talquerungen. Wer hier zu tief ankam, hatte enorm Mühe, den Anschluss zu behalten, was dazu führte, dass zahlreiche Piloten schon sehr früh am Boden standen.


Zurück beim Startplatz lag eigentlich ein vermeintlich leichtes, 20 Kilometer langes "Ridge Race" vor uns. Doch der Abschnitt erwies sich als extrem zäh. Nirgends ging es richtig hoch, und da dieser Schenkel zudem gegen den Wind geflogen werden musste, war es äusserst schwierig, den richtigen Mix aus Pushen und defensivem Fliegen zu finden. Alle blieben eng am Hang und wagten sich nur für die Wendepunkte ins Flache.



Taktische Entscheidungen und die Premiere des "Elevated Goal"
Am westlichen Turnpoint stand glücklicherweise endlich eine gute Thermik. Nun gab es mehrere Routenoptionen, um die nächsten zwei vorgelagerten Wendepunkte zu holen. Das Lead Gaggle entschied sich für die Hangvariante, doch das Flachland barg grosses Potenzial: Hier konnte deutlich näher an der Optimallinie geflogen werden. Die Flachland-Linie war am Ende tatsächlich schneller, sodass sich das Feld beim drittletzten Wendepunkt nochmals eng zusammenschob.


Nach einem letzten Abstecher in den Westen ging es in den Final Glide. Hier trat eine grosse Regeländerung in Kraft: Zum ersten Mal in der SRS wurde ein "Elevated Goal" gesetzt - eine Ziellinie 200 Meter über dem Boden (anstelle eines separaten Zylinders). Wer tiefer ankommt, kassiert einen Punkteabzug. Auf dem letzten Gleitflug wendete sich das Blatt jedoch komplett. Plötzlich gab es überall wunderbaren Aufwind. Das Gleiten war derart gut, dass fast niemand Probleme mit dem Höhenlimit hatte und die Piloten weit über der 200-Meter-Marke ins Ziel flogen.


Am Ende war es ein echter Selektionstag: 67 Piloten erreichten das Goal, für 62 war vorzeitig Schluss. Ein super Auftakt für die starke Schweizer Delegation!

Le coup d'envoi de la SRS Skywalk Edition à Bassano a été musclé. Une manche exigeante de 70 kilomètres, des traversées de vallées précoces et des thermiques bleus délicats ont mis le peloton à l'épreuve. Six des 14 pilotes suisses se sont placés en force dans le premier tiers.

Avant de nous pencher sur la manche d'aujourd'hui, il vaut la peine de considérer la dimension de cet événement : La 15e SRS Skywalk Edition (23 au 30 mai) est la compétition la mieux dotée de l'histoire des Sport Racing Series. Le vainqueur remportera environ 77 points WPRS ! Le plateau de 33 nations est d'un niveau exceptionnel. Au départ, on retrouve les vainqueurs des trois dernières saisons (Mark Hayman, Christian Durrant et Pal Takats) ainsi que neuf des membres du top 10 de 2025. Fait particulièrement réjouissant : les 6 premiers du nouveau classement mondial PG XC Sport sont également présents, dont deux Suisses, Marco Sommerfeld et Simon Steiner. De plus, 19 femmes luttent pour la victoire. Comme Bassano offre un mélange exigeant entre la chaîne alpine et la plaine italienne, une extrême polyvalence est de mise ici.



Un départ laborieux et des atterrissages précoces
Pour cette première manche, une tâche exigeante de 70 kilomètres a été définie. Les prévisions annonçaient un léger vent de sud à sud-ouest, pas de nuages et un plafond à environ 1500 mètres. Mais avant même le start aérien, il était déjà difficile de prendre de l'altitude. Les thermiques étaient faibles, très décalés et on perdait vite l'ascendance. L'entrée dans la course a commencé sans ménagement par deux grandes traversées de vallées. Ceux qui arrivaient trop bas avaient énormément de mal à rester au contact, ce qui a contraint de nombreux pilotes à poser très tôt.


De retour vers le décollage, c'est une "course de crête" (Ridge Race) de 20 kilomètres, supposée facile, qui nous attendait. Mais ce tronçon s'est avéré extrêmement coriace. Ça ne montait vraiment fort nulle part, et comme cette branche devait en plus être volée face au vent, il était extrêmement difficile de trouver le bon équilibre entre attaque et vol défensif. Tout le monde est resté collé au relief, ne s'aventurant en plaine que pour aller chercher les balises.



Décisions tactiques et première du "Elevated Goal"
Au point de virage ouest, un bon thermique nous attendait heureusement enfin. Il y avait alors plusieurs options de route pour aller chercher les deux balises suivantes avancées en plaine. Le groupe de tête (lead gaggle) a opté pour la variante sur le relief, mais la plaine offrait un grand potentiel : on pouvait y voler beaucoup plus près de la ligne optimale. La ligne de plaine s'est finalement avérée plus rapide, si bien que le peloton s'est à nouveau regroupé de manière serrée à l'avant-dernière balise.


Après un dernier crochet à l'ouest, place au plané final (Final Glide). Ici, un changement de règle majeur est entré en vigueur : pour la première fois sur les SRS, un "Elevated Goal" a été mis en place - une ligne d'arrivée à 200 mètres au-dessus du sol (au lieu d'un cylindre séparé). Arriver plus bas entraîne une pénalité de points. Lors du dernier plané, la situation s'est toutefois complètement inversée. Soudain, il y avait de merveilleuses ascendances partout. Le plané était si bon que presque personne n'a eu de problème avec la limite d'altitude, les pilotes franchissant la ligne bien au-dessus de la barre des 200 mètres.


Au final, ce fut une véritable journée de sélection : 67 pilotes ont atteint le Goal, tandis que la course s'est arrêtée prématurément pour 62 autres. Un super début pour la solide délégation suisse !

The start of the SRS Skywalk Edition in Bassano packed a punch. A demanding 70-kilometer task, early valley crossings, and tricky blue thermals challenged the field. Six of the 14 Swiss pilots placed strongly in the top third.



Summit of the Sports Class
Before we look at today's task, it's worth taking a look at the scale of this event: The 15th SRS Skywalk Edition (May 23 to 30) is the highest-scoring competition in the history of the Sport Racing Series. Around 77 WPRS points await the winner! The field of participants from 33 nations is correspondingly top-class. At the start are the season winners of the last three years (Mark Hayman, Christian Durrant, and Pal Takats) as well as nine of the top 10 from 2025. Particularly pleasing: The top 6 of the new PG XC Sport world ranking are also present, including two Swiss pilots, Marco Sommerfeld and Simon Steiner. In addition, 19 women are fighting for victory. Since Bassano offers a demanding mix of the Alpine chain and the Italian plains, extreme versatility is required here.



A tough start and early landings
A demanding 70-kilometer task was set for the first task. The forecast promised light south to southwest winds, no clouds, and a base at around 1500 meters. But even before the airstart, it was rather tricky to get proper height. The thermals were weak, strongly blown, and you quickly lost the climb again. The entry into the race began ruthlessly with two large valley crossings. Those who arrived too low here had an enormous struggle to keep up, which meant that numerous pilots were on the ground very early.


Back at the launch site, a supposedly easy 20-kilometer "Ridge Race" lay ahead of us. But the section proved to be extremely tough. It didn't go really high anywhere, and since this leg also had to be flown against the wind, it was extremely difficult to find the right mix of pushing and defensive flying. Everyone stayed close to the slope and only ventured into the flats for the turnpoints.



Tactical decisions and the premiere of the "Elevated Goal"
Fortunately, there was finally a good thermal at the western turnpoint. Now there were several route options to get the next two forward turnpoints. The lead gaggle decided on the slope variant, but the flatland held great potential: Here you could fly much closer to the optimal line. The flatland line was actually faster in the end, so the field bunched up tightly again at the third to last turnpoint.


After a final detour to the west, it was into the final glide. Here a major rule change came into effect: For the first time in the SRS, an "Elevated Goal" was set - a finish line 200 meters above the ground (instead of a separate cylinder). Anyone arriving lower receives a point deduction. On the last glide, however, the tide turned completely. Suddenly there was wonderful lift everywhere. The glide was so good that almost no one had problems with the height limit and the pilots flew into the goal well above the 200-meter mark.


In the end, it was a real selection day: 67 pilots reached Goal, for 62 it was over prematurely. A super start for the strong Swiss delegation!

Day 5 — 15th Paragliding World Cup Superfinal 2025 | Pegalajar, Spain La cinquième manche du Superfinal de Pegalajar proposait une task rapide de 127 km optimisés, dans des conditions qui semblaient idéales pour du vol de vitesse. Dès le départ, les pilotes ont profité de thermiques puissants, d’un plafond élevé et de longues transitions efficaces permettant au groupe de tête d’avancer à un rythme impressionnant au-dessus des reliefs andalous. Mais la fin de course s’est révélée bien plus compliquée que prévu. Durant les 20 derniers kilomètres, un voile nuageux de plus en plus présent a progressivement stabilisé la masse d’air. Les thermiques sont devenus faibles et difficiles à exploiter, transformant la dernière partie de la manche en véritable bataille de survie. Alors qu’un finish très rapide semblait se dessiner, de nombreux pilotes ont dû ralentir et chercher minutieusement les dernières ascendances exploitables pour rejoindre le goal. Malgré cette fin technique, la manche a pu être validée avec de nombreux pilotes au but. Chez les hommes, Guy Anderson remporte la manche après une nouvelle démonstration de vitesse et de stratégie. Chez les femmes, Constance Mettetal signe une nouvelle victoire de manche et prend également la tête du classement général féminin.
