Sehr schöner letzter Task in Engelberg mit gigantischem Start am Titlis. Ranglisten folgen später. Prize Giving etwa um 18 Uhr.

The wind above 2500m will turn from W to SW, wich will dry out the airmass a little bit. At the other hand, the frontal system arriving in the evening will make the air unstable. It looks, that we will be able to fly inside our valley pretty long in the afternoon. Probably we don't get rain. But Congestus around the area moving from SW to NE. Again clouds will be tricky to handle during the flight. Cloudbase: Raising from 2500m (12h) to 2800m. Wind: Lite to moderate valley brises. 1500: Variable 2000m: SW, but we are partially completely sheltered from the Titlis-mountain 3000m: 10-15kn SW, but as well, we are partially covered by the Titlis

After the Zick-Zack to spread the field and the usual turnpoint at Führenalp, the task did lead to the titlis-side again. After this, all came back to the thermal at Brunni, because of the shadow at the other side. Then "Melchtal" - Niederbauen - Pilatus and Goal at a turnpoint above Grafenort. This turnpoint has been choosen as Goal to leave the freedom where to land (at Engelberg rain has been expected early). Shadow did make the hole day difficult. Many pilots did not make it today, and because of some rain we had to stop the race just before Michael Maurer and Stephan Wyss reached Goal.

Attached the provisional rankings, and ... once more new rankings from yesterday ... Weather report for tomorrow: In front of a coldfront we will have a short situation with SW-Wind. Therefor we have two effects: - pre-frontal labilisation - dryer air with the SW-Wind (foen-effect) I think, it is the best day of the week. Briefing 10:00 at Brunnihütte.

Again Clouds with some rain in the Alps around noon. Later we await Congestus and isolated CB. Looks like the development will be later as lower the mountains (towards the lakes) Prediction of Congestus-free zone around Engelberg: COSMO1 until 14h WRF until 13h AROME until 16h But further north it will be later. Cloudbase: Raising from 2000m to 2500m. Wind: Lite to moderate valley brises. 1500-2500m: No wind.

The prognosis let start the thermal activity early with a high enough cloud base. I hope, that it does not rain too much now ...

Again very humid airmass with low cloudbase and early congestus and thunderstorms. To spread the field after the start, a waypoint towards Trübsee and back had to be taken twice before the race did lead to Führenalp, Titlis, Stanserhorn and back to Engelberg.

Humid air will produce Congestus in the Alps pretty soon, with spreading the clouds. The southerly airflow above 4000m will drift this spread (clouds) over to Engelberg in the early afternoon. Later we await Congestus and isolated CB. Prediction of Congestus-free zone around Engelberg: COSMO1 until 14h WRF until 13h AROME until 16h The prognosis, where, and when the first Congestus is in our area is very difficult. I think, we can fly until 14h :-) Cloudbase: 2300m Wind: Lite to moderate valley brises. 1500-2500m: No wind.

I think, we can fly until 14:30 :-) Cloudbase: 2200m, 2300m My calculation is the same (2300 at 13h). Wind: Moderate valley brises. 1500-2500m: Probably we will feel the northeasterly a little bit (as later as more), but the influence of the clouds is important as well. Above 3000m: South wind, 10-15kn

56km in a zick zack at the valley with landing at Wolfenschiessen. The conditions where smooth, except on the final glide because of the valley brise. The Congestus did rise up around the valley, but inside the task area they did not disturb at all. Stephan Morgenthaler and Nanda Walliser did win.

Weather Report for tomorrow, Wednesday: Similar situation as today, but probably with a little bit more high cloud coverage and a little bit more southerly winds (as today, the prognosis of WRF makes earlier Congestus with rain as COSMO and AROME). Wind: Lite to moderate valley brises. 1500-2500m: Probably the influence of the clouds is more important as the light wind from northerly directions.
