Nach einem Zoom Briefing am Freitag abend ging die XC Liga am Samstag nach Fiesch. Wie immer war jedem selber überlassen, was er fliegen möchte. Grob gab es drei Pläne:
1) klassisches FAI-Dreieck
2) über die Pässe nach Osten
3) die Wetterlage nutzen und über die hohen Berge fliegen
Die Prognosen sahen gut aus, auch wenn die prognostizierten Zirren für ein paar Fragezeichen sorgen. Breits ab 10 Uhr konnten die ersten Pilot*innen starten und machten sich auf Richtung Grimsel. Insbesondere am Vormittag war die Thermik noch ziemlich schwach und zyklisch. Die Grimselschlange war mässig aktiv und man musste aufpassen, dass man vor dem Grimsel wendete, oder diesen sehr hoch überflog. Runter ging es klassisch für den Sommer über den Aletschgletscher und die hohen Berge beim Bietschhorn. Die Zirren kamen dann auch noch Mitte Nachmittag, verschwanden aber zum Glück wieder. Da es auch in der Westschweiz gut ging, konnte der zweite Wendepunkt fast bei Leysin gesetzt werden. Die Südtäler waren gewohnt anspruchsvoll. Die weitesten haben dann den Tag wirklich ausgenutzt und sind mit der letzten Thermik vom Saastal raus und zurück nach Fiesch geflogen.
So gab es am Tagesende doch einige FAI-Flüge über 200km.

After a Zoom briefing on Friday evening, the XC League went to Fiesch on Saturday. As always, it was up to everyone to decide what they wanted to fly. Roughly there were three plans:
1) classic FAI triangle
2) over the passes to the east
3) take advantage of the weather conditions and fly over the high mountains
The forecasts looked good, even if the predicted cirrus clouds caused a few question marks. Already at 10 am the first pilots could take off and headed for the Grimsel. Especially in the morning the thermals were still quite weak and cyclic. The Grimsel snake was moderately active and one had to be careful to turn before the Grimsel or to fly over it very high. The descent was classic for summer over the Aletsch glacier and the high mountains near the Bietschhorn. The cirrus clouds came in the middle of the afternoon, but fortunately disappeared again. Since it also went well in western Switzerland, the second turning point could be set almost at Leysin. The southern valleys were as usual demanding. The farthest ones really took advantage of the day and flew out of the Saas valley with the last thermals and back to Fiesch.
So there were some FAI flights over 200km at the end of the day.
