So, das war’s dann mit der Berichterstattung von unserem Weltrekordversuch hier in Brasilien. Es war einmal mehr eine tolle Zeit hier im Sertao, mit tollen Flügen und unvergesslichen Sonnenuntergängen. Leider war der Wind niemals stark genug, um auch nur annähernd in Schlagdistanz zum Weltrekord von über 600km zu kommen. Manchmal hatte es sogar so wenig Wind, dass man riesige Dreiecke fliegen konnte. Das 270 km Dreieck von Sebi ist vermutlich das grösste jemals geflogene FAI Dreieck im Flachland. Dazu ist zu sagen, dass Yael ihren eigenen Weltrekord um nur 7km verpasst hat. Sie ist und bleibt die einzige Frau, die jemals über 500km geflogen ist – und das nun sogar schon zwei Mal.
Es war auf jeden Fall eine schöne Zeit hier und ich bin stolz, dass alle mal über 500km geflogen sind, was noch immer nicht alltäglich ist!

Wie geht es nun weiter? NE-Brasilien, rep. Caico ist definitiv der mit Abstand einfachste Ort, um über 500km zu fliegen: kaum Zeitverschiebung, rel. günstig, viel Wind, einfache Flugbedingungen und perfekte Infrastruktur. Trotzdem: der Wind im Nordosten Brasiliens ist (rechnerisch) praktisch immer zu schwach, um deutlich über 600 km zu fliegen. Wir werden in der XC Ligakommission anschauen, wie und wo der Event in den nächsten Jahren weitergeführt wird.

Unfortunately, the wind was never strong enough to even come close to be within striking distance of the world record of over 600km. Sometimes there was even so little wind that you could fly huge triangles. Sebi's 270km triangle is probably the largest FAI triangle ever flown in the lowlands. It has to be said that Yael missed her own world record by only 7km. She is and remains the only woman who has ever flown over 500km - and she has done it twice now.
In any case, it was a great time here and I am proud that all of them have flown over 500km once, which is still not common!

Where do we go from here? NE-Brazil, rep. Caico is definitely by far the easiest place to fly over 500km: hardly any time difference, relatively cheap, lots of wind, easy flying conditions and perfect infrastructure. Nevertheless: the wind in northeastern Brazil is (computationally) practically always too weak to fly much above 600km. We will look in the XC League Commission how and where the event will be continued in the next years.
