Superfinal task 6

Yael Margelisch 13. December 2022 SuperFinal Valle de Bravo Mexico
Today is the last day before the rest day. Task committee send us on a 95km task, with no real options for the start. It was therefore really crowded and difficult to get in a good position because clouds were forming. around, a good sign to know that the convergence will be really active today. So we started the task with a 4km glide to go out of the start cylinder. Then glide back to the mountain, hit the g spot and placed ourselves under the convergence. It was again not easy to know how high we should stop climbing, in order to avoid the cloud. then well placed on the right line, we went to get the turn point and back the same way we came. I did only 2 turns on all this distance, it was crazy how it worked, but also demanding. full bar in this is sometime quite shaky. Then we jumped to the ridge to head west. I lost a bit of time on the ridge because I released a few times, and took the option of getting out of the ridge earlier, as clouds were forming in front and on the end of the ridge it was blue. it worked, I could place myself again in the group, not the highest but I had to keep pushing to stay in that group. in the flats, I hit a small thermal and did a few turns but it wasn't good enough so decided to keep on going. the guys above me decides to head more right, and the others behind went on the foothills we knew from previous tasks. I hesitated for a while, the safer option would be to have people under me but in front, a nice cloud was forming and decided to stay with the gaggle above me. We arrived in a super smooth but powerful 4m/s and by centering well I managed to keep up with people at the same height. Then we had a long glide in the flats and we had absolutely no lift. It was starting to be hot in the submarine ! We took the turn point and came back to the foothills the left group chose before. It was working well and finally sent us up again, ready to go back to the take off. At that moment, Dominik went right to get a better thermal but ended up coming back under us. We started the glide towards the foothills of the Mesa and there got a quite ugly thermal. just enough to go to the final glide. Maxime led the group outside the mountains, as Honoring threw his group to soar the ridge. I hesitated and went in between, which wasn't the best option. came back at the bottom of the Penon and did some turns to be sure I would reach the ESS and lost 1 and half minute on Maxime's group, in which Youri was. Domi came a few minutes later.
